Discipline and its Importance in Student life

Discipline is a practice that we should follow regularly in order to achieve our goals, as Grenville Kleise rightly stated, "By constant self-discipline and self-control we(you) can develop the greatness of character". In this article, the definition of Discipline and its importance in student life are being briefly discussed.

At first, let me describe about discipline. What is it? Discipline means obedience to the established rules of conduct. It is of great importance in every walk in our life.

Next the question comes, how it works in our society and in our daily life as well?  In the family, all the members must obey the head of the family. There cannot be any peace or happiness in the family if there is no discipline. In social life, every person has to obey the rules and regulations to maintain the law and order in the society. If people go on according to their will, there cannot be any order and the society would suffer.

The importance of discipline among soldiers who are protecting our country is known to all. Every soldier must obey the commander. An indisciplined army can never win a battle. In schools and colleges, class rooms, libraries, students must obey the rules of their institutions. They must be attentive to their studies. In the playground also discipline is great necessity. We have seen how an apparently strong but indisciplined team loses to weaker but disciplined teams. It is evident that indiscipline has no place in the world.

Before discussing the importance of discipline in student/school life, let us take a look at some great sayings of some great people:
Alexa Hirschfeld states,
"The biggest challenge is to stay focused. It is to have the discipline when there are so many competing things."
On the other hand, Muhammad Ali Jinnah says,
"With faith, discipline and selfless devotion to duty, there is nothing worthwhile that you cannot achieve."
Now read carefully what George Washington says about discipline,
"Discipline is the soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable; procures success to the weak, and esteem to all."
Lal Bahadur Shastri brilliantly defines it by saying'
"Discipline and united action are the real source of strength for the nation."
Last but not the least, Bernard Law Montgomery makes it clear by stating,
"Discipline strengthens the mind, so that it becomes impervious to corroding influence of fear."

I Hope, you understood the importance and power of discipline after reading all these famous sayings and quotes. Now, its time to come back to our discussion. The student or school life is the most important period in a man's/woman's life. It is the formative stage of his/her mind. Good training received at this stage will make him/her a good citizen in future. It is therefore very essential that a student must learn discipline in his student life. Leading a disciplined life at this stage will make him/her a good and responsible person in later life. Student should make the best use of his/her student life. He/she should be very careful about his or her studies and must lead a disciplined life to build character.
